Our Origin Story

From an Iveco Van to a Global Village.

Founded by Ugandan-born Dennis Obel in 2013, Afrofeast began as a pioneering Pan-African gourmet food truck — an Iveco van wrapped in vibrant Ndebele cultural patterns, moving through the streets of Melbourne serving Ugandan Rolex and South African Bunny Chow.

Recognising that the hunger for African culture was not just physical — it was digital — the brand evolved into a sophisticated global media ecosystem. Today, Afrofeast is a cultural bridge connecting communities through food, travel, and unapologetic storytelling.

"

The hunger for African culture was not just physical — it was digital. And so we followed it, everywhere it went.

Core Values

What We Stand For

01
Authenticity

Real people, real culture, real experiences. We started on the streets and we keep it real — no clickbait, no performative diversity.

02
Integrity

Honest and transparent in all we do. We tell the truth, even when it is uncomfortable. Especially then.

03
Humanity

People before profit. Every platform, every story, every guide is designed to create positive social impact for local communities.

04
Access

African travel should be accessible for all. Affordable options, practical guides, and frictionless tools for every kind of traveller.

How We Speak

01
Pioneering

We were the first. We lead, we do not follow. Unapologetically bold — we set the agenda.

"We were serving Bunny Chow before Melbourne knew what it was."

02
Practical

Direct, clear, zero fluff. We respect your time. Every sentence earns its place.

"Here is exactly how to get from Nairobi to Mombasa by bus for under $10."

03
Warm

We understand the anxieties of travel and meet them with genuine empathy.

"We know this can feel overwhelming — let us break it down for you."

04
Honest

We tell the truth, even when it is uncomfortable. No greenwashing, no hype.

"Let us talk about why Western booking platforms fail African travellers."

05
Worldly

We draw authentic connections across the Global South and beyond.

"The spice markets of Zanzibar and the street stalls of Bangkok share more than you think."
